Aid for Undocumented Students

Undocumented and DACA students may be eligible for Washington State Need Grant, College Bound Scholarship, Washington State Work-Study, and some EWU scholarships (depending on donor criteria).

DACA students and 1079 students who are interested in applying for state financial aid for 2019-2020 should complete the following:

  • Apply for admission to EWU by February 1, 2019 (new freshmen and transfers)
  • File a 2019-2020 WASFA listing EWU as a school choice by February 1, 2019.
  • Submit a residency affidavit form (1079 form) or proof of DACA status (I-797) to the EWU Records and Registration Office by February 1, 2019.
  • Have a family income at or below the EWU eligibility cutoff amount.
  • Meet all other institutional award requirements

Students who do not meet the above deadlines will still be considered for aid, but awards are made on a funds-available basis and late applicants may not receive all the aid for which they might otherwise qualify.

In some cases, we may ask you to provide copies of your and/or your parents’ IRS tax return transcripts and verification of household size and untaxed income. Be sure to check your EWU email account periodically for messages related to those items.

Please contact the Financial Aid Office at 509.359.2314 if you have specific questions about financial aid eligibility and the WASFA application process.  Undocumented and DACA students may be eligible for some EWU scholarships (depending on donor criteria), but are not eligible for institutional financial aid or any programs funded with tuition waivers, including WUE, tuition-waiver funded scholarships, or graduate assistantships.

Eligibility for State Financial Aid - 1079 Students

Undocumented (non-DACA) students who qualify for 1079 status are eligible for resident tuition rates and may qualify for the State Need Grant (SNG), College Bound Scholarship, Passport to College Scholarship, or State Work Study (with work authorization) if all other eligibility requirements are met.  The requirements for 1079 status are as follows:

  1. Earned a diploma from a Washington State high school (or obtained a GED or equivalent).
  2. Lived in Washington for at least three calendar years (36 months) prior to earning the high school diploma or equivalent and continuously since.
  3. Sign an affidavit (written promise) affirming eligibility and promising to become a permanent resident/citizen of the United States when eligible to apply.

Eligibility for State Financial Aid - DACA Students

DACA students who meet the Washington state residency requirements may qualify for the State Need Grant (SNG), College Bound Scholarship, State Work Study, or the Passport Scholarship program if all other eligibility requirements are met.  Please consult with the residency specialist in the EWU Records and Registration Office (509-359.2321) to discuss and document your eligibility for Washington state residency.
