FAFSA Application Process

To receive financial aid, you have to be admitted to EWU, which means you have to apply.

If you apply by Feb. 1, you are given priority consideration and can work to maximize your award. If you apply earlier, that’s cool, too!

You should apply for scholarships as early as possible. The deadline for most EWU scholarships is Feb. 1.

Get in-depth information on scholarship opportunities and deadlines.

The Free Application for Federal student Aid (FAFSA) is available Oct. 1 and will take time to complete.

Students should complete and submit a FAFSA by Feb. 1 for priority consideration.

Look for key information from the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. They have all the information on how to apply for, verify, and receive your financial aid.

  • Request a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. It’s the first step in the process and can take several weeks. Learn more with FSA ID FAQs.
  • If you are a dependent student, make sure your parents request their own FSA ID. They need an FSA ID that’s different from yours.
  • Before you start, make sure you have copies of your federal income tax forms. If you’re a dependent student, you’ll need your parents’ federal income tax forms, too.
  • Use the IRS Data Retrieval tool within the FAFSA application if you’re eligible to do so.
  • File the correct FAFSA for the correct school year.
  • Read the FAFSA instructions carefully.
  • Make sure your Social Security Number is accurate.
  • Use the exact name on your social security card.
  • Include your name and university ID  on every document you send to EWU.
  • Update your EWU records and correct your processed FAFSA whenever you have an address change. EWU address changes may be made through myEWU portal at any time.
  • Check your EWU student email account frequently. We will send email to your EWU student account throughout the year.
  • Reapply by the priority date each year. If you have a FAFSA on file from the previous year, use the FAFSA Renewal Application to reuse your information.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for financial aid from the federal government. Be sure to file the correct FAFSA for the year you wish to attend. The academic year runs from fall quarter through summer quarter.

When you apply, use EWU’s school code: 003775.
