Explore mind-boggling canyons and rugged rocks with a geological guide to Washington state, written and published by three EWU professors. In its first few months, Washington Rocks! has sold 5,000 copies, launching a second printing of the book.

Washington Rocks!, written by emeritus EWU professor Eugene Kiver and current EWU professors Chad Pritchard and Richard Orndorff, showcases 57 of Washington state’s natural wonders, ranging from Mt. Baker to Cheney’s Williams Lake. The Seattle Times described the book as “a happy addition to any road trip.”

“The hope is to get people interested in geology. It’s written for the layperson, not for a professional geologist,” Kiver said. “If you’re looking for places to see around Washington state, this is a great resource.”

The book spans roughly 130 pages with photos and a brief history of each geological site. All featured locations are on publicly-owned land, accessible to the public.

Kiver, Pritchard and Orndorff will be reading and signing their book at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at Auntie’s Bookstore. Washington Rocks! retails for $18 through Mountain Press Publishing Company, and can also be purchased at Costco and other independent book stores.
